Environmental Clearances
All prescribed mining and mineral extraction projects gazetted under the National Environment Act should obtain respective environmental clearance from the Central Environmental Authority as per provisions of the National Environmental Act, No. 47 of 1980 by submitting either an Initial Environmental Examination Report (IEER) or Environment Impact Assessment Report (EIAR). All mining activities under Industrial Mining Licences ‘A’ category (IML A) should obtain this environmental clearance.
It should also be noted that:
- All mining projects of IML ‘A’ category are not considered prescribed.
- The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) issues Environmental Protection License (EPL) or Environmental Recommendation (ER) as environmental clearances. So-far ER has not been legalized as per the NEA.
